Newcrest Mining are a long term APC Technology customer. One of the key projects was the design and manufacture of a mining tagging system

With a proven track record in custom engineering for harsh environments, worked directly with the client to provide a solution which meet their requirements.

Newcrest requirements were multi-fold: the replacement of an obsolete system; incorporation of the existing card reader system; connectivity and integration from the unit to existing systems on location plus within a budget & scope of work as set by the company.

Initial discussions led to the use of an existing APC Technology FT panel as the central hub of the tagging system, ensuring a cost effective option. The APC engineering team then designed and presented a solution which met the required functionality. Key features include stainless steel construction to maximise durability, dual sealing to prevent the ingress of dust and liquid, customised I/Os and controlled wiring.

Ian Anderson, Project Manager at Newcrest Mining played a crucial part in working with APC Technology on the specifications. “I actually unloaded the first tagging system when it arrived on site and my reaction on the look, feel and quality of the units was delight. They looked great and exceeded my expectation. Seeing an idea come to fruition was satisfying for everyone involved in the project.” Ian further commented, “The feedback  from users and our IT department is the units are easy to use and perform to the levels that we specified.”

The tagging systems have been manufactured in-house at APC Technology’s Adelaide factory. Newcrest Mining has expanded their initial order to include customised mounts.
